All she wants for Christmas...
"wa!" A baby was born. A name was given. There, a new identity in the society. She looks at the world through those blue eyes. She points at everything she gets interested in. But her parents were puzzled. Why does she... never cry? Never made any noise, let alone talk? But they pushed that thought aside, thinking it was just their paranoia.
Then, one day, she called them "Dad" and "Mom". They couldn't believe it. The elation and the confirmation that she was "okay". Everyday, they taught her new words, but all she could say... was "Dad" and "Mom".
They got irritated, and wanted her to learn more words, but as the days passed, all the training has just made her say "Dad" and "Mom" in a sadder tone.
Then, one day, they continued their training and realised that she could say all the words they have been trying to teach her. They were shocked, but again, the elation has overruled any thoughts in their mind.
She grew up as a fine lady, with all the lessons that her parents taught her since young. She graduated from high school, went on to college, and ended up in University. As most parents hoped, she went to the University of Melbourne, Faculty of Law, a future lawyer.
One day, with no rhythm or reason, she collapsed in her room.
She woke up 3 months later.
As those blue eyes open, peeking at the unfamiliar, yet familiar world. She was discharged, and her parents came to bring her home. During the taxi ride, thoughts raced through her mind. She just felt that, all this while, she was living in another's life. She saw her life suddenly. Her whole life just flashed past.
When she was a kid, all she wanted was to view the hectic world with watery eyes.
She just wanted to call "Dad" and "Mom" in the most innocent tone.
She wished that she was never so smart, to do well and end up in places that expectations were so high.
She realised, that all this while, she was just living the life of another.
Trying so hard, to be someone she's not.
All she wants and wishes for now...
is herself.
